Bach Conversations is a reimagining of JS Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in C major BWV 1009 by musician/ composer Elissa Goodrich for solo marimba and responding duet improvisations with members of her acclaimed jazz ensemble States of Play and long-time colleague, sublime singer Ria Soemardjo.

The Artists:
Elissa Goodrich - marimba and vibraphone
Ria Soemardjo - voice and frame drum,
Phil Bywater - saxophone
Tamara Murphy - double bass
Daniel Farrugia - drums

While the marimba shares a similar timbre to the cello, by adapting the original cello score to this instrument, we immediately travel with Bach and with the marimba into a distinct interpretation of Cello Suite No. 3. with the extraordinary harmonic and melodic qualities that Bach's suite leads us through, Bach Conversations provides a unique musical opportunity to enter new and rich conversations with the wonderful, expert guest world and jazz musicians - transcending classical, contemporary and world idioms, with these critically acclaimed, contemporary musicians whose expertise range across the idioms. As the title suggests, Bach Conversations presents a journey into the myriad emotions, tensions and beauty of the Cello Suite No.3 through a series of Bach Conversations; a musical dialogue between five musical companions and J.S. Bach.
